Self Assessment of Content Curation

I have gained a whole new perspective on curation of content. I feel that this will be a valuable tool for me to use when keeping students up to date on what is happening in medicine.

 I have performed a self assessment of the content curation page that I created. I used Scoop-it to curate content for Emerging Technologies in Healthcare. This will provide students an updated view of the new tech that is happening and coming.

Is it Twittering or Tweetering?

I find it hard to define my feelings with social media in today's society. There are times that I feel like Mark Zuckerberg and I really feel excited about the connectivity. At other times, I feel like the grumpy old man on his porch, yelling at the neighbor's kids to "get off my lawn!" I have been a casual user of Facebook and Instagram since the launch of these social platforms. I signed up on Twitter but could never catch the Twitter "bug". Most recently, I started using Snapchat (my students had to show me how) but I don't think that I am using it correctly. On the "Cutting Edge" of Tweeting

When I started on Twitter it was just because it was new and everyone else was doing it. It quickly became too time consuming to keep up with all of the new social media platforms. Between life, school and work, I did not put much stock in the usefulness of the social media craze. The idea of using, not just Twitter but other social media platforms, to engage in quality professional development, adds a new justification to the effectiveness and appeal of Twitter and the others. Over the past week, I have added multiple surgical hashtags to my TweetDeck and have found them to be very useful. Since I am actively engaged in my profession of surgical technology and surgical technology education, I have found much use in following these Tweets. RSS in Education

When I started this assignment, I found that I was really afraid of it. I think that my fear stemmed from my lack of knowledge of RSS and then I had to create a video, teaching something that I wasn't comfortable with. After all of that fear and anxiety, I started using Feedly. I found that as I started exploring and utilizing Feedly, I quickly became addicted to it. I absolutely love the ability to customize and choose what I want to read, without having to wade through undesirable information. The ability to use RSS in my classroom, is a complete no brainer. In the field of surgery, technology and techniques are changing almost on a daily basis. I am incorporating it my class by having them start a Feedly account and start collecting subscriptions to different surgical sites. This will make it so they are staying current in the field. It also serves as tool for them to collect ideas for future research papers.
